United, Archer Choose Chicago for Second Air Taxi Route

United Airlines and electronic air taxi producer Archer Aviation have selected the route between Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Vertiport Chicago as its next air taxi route, the companies announced Thursday. The companies in November announced their first route, between New York’s Manhattan heliport and Newark Liberty International Airport.

Flights between Vertiport, located in the Illinois Medical District, southwest of the Chicago Loop, and O’Hare will operate with Archer’s Midnight electronic vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and take approximately 10 minutes, according to the companies. Flights currently are scheduled to begin in 2025.

United in August 2022 paid Archer a $10 million deposit for 100 of the company’s eVTOL aircraft.
