United Expands Corp. Eco-Skies Alliance, Will increase SAF Use

United Airlines has added eight companies to its Eco-Skies Alliance program, launched in April 2021, which allows corporate clients to collectively contribute to the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel, the carrier announced Thursday.

New participants in the third round of the alliance include Audi, Bank of America, Cisco, Corporate Travel Management, DB Schenker, First Eagle Investments, Macquarie Group and Thermo Fisher Scientific. The program now has 24 active participants, and since its inception has collectively contributed toward the purchase of nearly 15 million gallons of SAF, according to United.

In addition, United announced that deliveries of SAF for use in flights departing from San Francisco International Airport began in April, and later this year the carrier plans to use SAF at London Heathrow Airport. The additions put the airline on track to use about 10 million gallons of SAF in 2023, nearly three times more than 2022 usage and close to 10 times more than in 2019, according to the carrier.

United also uses SAF at Los Angeles International Airport and Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
