United Purchases 1M Gallons of SAF for Use at O’Hare

United Airlines has purchased 1 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel from producer Neste for use at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the carrier announced Wednesday. The first supply is scheduled to arrive in August, with the remainder of the fuel to be delivered through the end of 2024.

O’Hare is the fifth airport for which United has purchased SAF for use, according to the carrier, joining airports in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Amsterdam.

United president Brett Hart credited Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and his efforts to pass state SAF tax credits with bringing the alternative fuel to O’Hare. “While the market for SAF is still in its infancy, there is a huge opportunity today for airlines and policymakers to work together to support its continued growth,” Hart said in a statement.
