URC Thailand’s URGreen Upcycling Uniform Campaign: From Plastic Bottles to Eco-Friendly Uniforms

Did you know? URC Thailand’s new uniforms are made from recycled plastic bottles

The Thailand branch of Universal Robina Corporation (URC) has recently initiated the “URGreen Upcycling Uniform Campaign” to further its commitment to sustainability. This innovative campaign seeks to repurpose PET plastic bottles by transforming them into uniforms, thereby promoting the responsible management of plastic waste and emphasizing the vital role of reducing carbon emissions in the fight against global warming.

The URGreen Upcycling Uniform Campaign is dedicated to minimizing CO2 emissions by 1.714kg for every shirt produced. Each uniform shirt is crafted from 14 recycled 600ml PET water bottles that were gathered between January and April 2024. URC Thailand has successfully gathered a total of 21,000 plastic bottles, with the intent to transform them into stylish and eco-friendly polo shirts.

By June, 1,500 shirts had been produced and distributed to employees. The reduction in CO2 emissions for all shirts totaled 2,571kg CO2e, which is equivalent to planting 215 trees.

The employees at URC Thailand took an active part in the design process, and in the end, the design created by Vichida Pengnum, a Senior Employee Relations Supervisor, was chosen for the company polo. To celebrate diversity and creativity, a fashion show was organized for the employees to proudly showcase the new uniforms.

Looking ahead, URC Thailand is eager to continue this initiative to further contribute to the reduction of plastic waste and carbon emissions. The company aims to produce an additional 4,800 shirts in the future, which will require 67,000 recycled plastic bottles.

“Sustainable fashion is important to URC, both locally and internationally. Last year, URC Flour had its own upcycling initiative in partnership with local brands AraPilak and Aecovas Apparel to produce eco-friendly clothing using recycled cotton sacks.”

In the Philippines, URC is a prominent producer of beloved brands that have been ingrained in the lives of Filipinos for many years. Some of these iconic brands include Great Taste, C2 Cool & Clean, Piattos, Maxx candy, and Cream-O cookies. URC is one of the largest food and beverage manufacturers in the country and continues to expand its influence across the ASEAN region. In addition to its well-established local brands, URC also boasts leading regional brands such as Lexus, Tivoli, and Fun-O.
