Hi!
I’m Alyssa Smith, a television host, lifestyle expert and mama to two littles living in Beverly Hills. I’ve spent over two decades in the fashion and entertainment industries and am obsessed with all things beauty and wellness. Over the last 8 years, I’ve conducted 4,000 live TV interviews including many A-list celebrities and Fortune 500 CEOs.
Prior to television hosting, I owned a luxury swimwear label that was a celebrity favorite and featured in Vogue, W Magazine and InStyle. Before venturing into the fashion world as an entrepreneur, I had a long career as a professional model and actress working on major TV shows and movies.
When it comes to motherhood, especially for new moms, I have some tips and items that have really saved me. I’m so happy to be here to share my tips and take on being a mom with you. Aside from mindset and baby items for new moms, I’m also going to throw in my beauty and wellness must-haves as well as some career tips I’ve picked up over the years.
Tips for YOU, the Mom
+ Give yourself a ton of grace, especially in those first six months. Don’t pressure yourself to “bounce back” or fit into your pre-baby clothes too quickly. In the overall scheme of things- it’s really such a short period of time.
+ Join a baby group – it’s really more like group therapy for new moms. Having a support group of people who are at the exact same stage as you really helps during the first year.
+ Try to make time for yourself when you can. Even if it’s just a quick meditation, journal session or yoga class once a week. I did an art class after my first baby was born and it became the highlight of my week- a little something for myself that was purely creative.
Must Have Items
Silverettes: These silver nursing cups really save the day when it comes to breastfeeding. No nipple creams needed! Plus, these silver covers are antibacterial and antifungal.
Baby Björn Bouncer: The extra set of hands you never knew you needed. If you don’t have help around the clock, this bouncer is key! It’s like having someone else to hold the baby when you need to make a bottle or wash some dishes.
Baby Food Maker: I love this because it’s all stainless steel and glass. It steams and then blends the food so the clean up is minimal. And you get full control over baby’s first foods.
Lovevery Baby Gym + Play Kits: This Montessori play gym and subscription kit takes the guesswork out of how to play with your baby and which toys are best for which stage. It’s really all you need and they are made with sustainable non-toxic materials.
Caraa Sport Diaper Bag: Run around town with tons of baby gear while still looking chic. This bag is functional, machine washable and has tons of storage pockets for all the items you didn’t even know you needed- until you did.
Bumpsuit Armadillo Baby Carrier: Comfortable and cozy for mom and baby while still being stylish. I have 3-4 different carriers and this is the only one that doesn’t hurt my back!
Lalo Highchair: This aesthetically-pleasing highchair won’t clash with your kitchen or living room furniture and is super easy to clean. I also love the matching “splat mat” that goes underneath and all the plates, bowls and utensils.
Baby Mori: This is the only brand you need for baby clothing. By using bamboo and organic cotton, they have created the softest and stretchiest baby clothes on the market.
Must Have Items Everyone Needs
Laneige Lip Mask: Even though this product says it’s an overnight mask, I use this as lip balm all day and all night. It’s extremely hydrating and seems to be the only thing that doesn’t make my lips more chapped.
Goop Himalayan Salt Scalp Scrub: This is a dream product for the softest bounciest hair possible. I use it like a detox shampoo once a week or whenever my husband hasn’t used it all! No conditioner required!
Kat Burki Velocity Serum: This lactic acid serum plumps my skin instantly and minimizes fine lines. During the first week of using it, my husband walked into the bathroom and actually said “you look younger.” So needless to say, it’s my current favorite.
Salty Face Tanning Water: An organic and clean tanning product that doesn’t smell like soy sauce and gives me the best possible glow. It comes with a brush for a streak-free application which is a game-changer.
Biba de Sousa Cream Barrier: This intense hydrating cream is my skin’s savior during travel and winter months. It’s thick and packed with peptides and botanicals. You will thank me later, I promise. There is a reason why Billie Eilish, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Hailey Bieber are all obsessed with this line.
The Golden Secrets Youth Face Oil: I love using this organic nutrient-rich glowing face oil for facial massage with my gua sha. So many face oils actually clog your pores but this one is as clean as it gets.
Higher Dose Infrared Mat: We call this the “Xanax Mat” in our house because it not only eases any soreness or inflammation in the body but it will put you into a deep state of relaxation. Electromagnetic fields, negative ions and infrared heat working together for the ultimate recovery. Plus, there’s no need to shower afterward.
Great Lakes Collagen: Collagen is incredible for our skin, hair, nails, tissues and our joints! I also believe this product prevented me from getting stretch marks during my pregnancies. This brand has been around for over 100 years so they are true experts in the field.
Oxygen-Based Magnesium: This is the best product for traveling, before colonics or if you just need to clean out the pipes. Ozonated Magnesium improves gut health and digestion. They call the gut our “second brain” for a reason, so a clean intestinal tract can help reduce brain fog and overall energy.
Gua Sha Tool: I’ve been trying to ease up on the Botox and fillers and focus more on facial manipulation, massage and gua sha. I do it while watching TV at the end of the day and have noticed a major difference when I stay consistent. It’s been around for 2000 years for a reason.
Career Tips
+ Always bring ideas to the table even if you are unsure if it’s a good idea.
+ Having a good attitude and work ethic can take you further than your IQ or talent.
+ Don’t be afraid to try something new- it’s never too late. I’ve had a lot of different careers in my life and I’m sure there will be more down the road.
+ Sometimes you are only as good as your team. So if you have the opportunity, build a strong team around yourself or go somewhere where you can join a team of people you respect and inspire you.
+ Sometimes you do have to fake it until you make it.
+ Thank and recognize the people around you that help prop you and your role up. In a well-oiled machine, all the parts matter for the outcome.
