Starting next ski season, for a $50 membership, skiers and riders can get premium rental skis or boards, boots, and poles for just $50 a day. And Vail Resorts will deliver the gear directly to you. You can have it brought to the slopes or to the door of your condo or hotel. And when you’re finished, you can opt to leave it at the original drop-off point.
The app-based program lets members choose from 50 different ski and snowboard models from 15 name brands, including Atomic, Blizzard, Icelantic, K2, Nordica, Rossignol, Stöckli, and Volkl, and snowboards from Burton, Capita, Jones, Lib Tech, Ride and Weston, and with both skis and snowboards from Salomon.
Members also have access to more than 60 boot combinations and the option for an insole upgrade when you rent. In the future, members can use 3D foot scanning via the My Epic app on their phones for best-in-class fit. Bring your boots and you save $10 per day. If you want to rent a helmet, it’s an extra $10 per day.
Vail Resorts Launches a Gear Rental Program
The ski gear rental pilot program, happening now at Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail, and Beaver Creek, is for adults only, but when the program officially launches in 2024/25, an under-18 membership will also be available. In 2024/25, adults and kids can join My Epic Gear at Whistler Blackcomb, Park City, Crested Butte, Heavenly, Northstar, Stowe, Okemo, and Mount Snow.
Members don’t always have to rent the same skis or board. However, through the membership, they can select their favorite skis or snowboard and boots at the beginning of the season. My Epic Gear guarantees that gear will be tuned and ready for you at any participating resort as long as it’s reserved 7 days in advance.
Gear provided to program members will be new each season, though the fleet may include lightly used gear from the prior season. If you want to sample skis based on conditions, members must reserve 2 days in advance to have gear delivered. Or you can pick up gear at a resort Member Services for reservations made less than 2 days in advance.
And if you’re not sure what skis/board and boots you want or need, a My Epic Gear associate will recommend the best options for you based on your experience and the snow conditions. Ski gear is available for rental for all ability levels, from beginner to expert and all terrain types.
Rent, Ski, and Save Money
Depending on how often you rent gear, joining My Epic Gear could be a money saver as well as a time saver — especially for families or people who travel to ski Epic resorts a lot. There is no limit on how many days you can rent ski or ride equipment. But you do have to reserve gear in advance — which makes this program targeted at visitors, and not locals.
According to Vail Resorts, the My Epic Gear membership daily use rate is less than the average daily cost of owning gear for a guest and less than the price of premium demo rentals.
Members select if they want their gear delivered to a specific address or prepped for slopeside pickup. Want your boots delivered to your condo and your skis waiting for you on piste? My Epic Gear will do that. And when it’s time for après, you can leave rental skis or board at a slopeside pick-up/drop-off location so you can keep the fun rolling without being encumbered by awkward gear.
