The VW ID.4 is the 2nd best selling model in Sweden in August.
The Swedish new car market is up 16% year-on-year in August to 23,871 sales, leading to a year-to-date volume edging down -0.4% to 181,834. BEVs are up 68.3% for the month to 9,784 and 41% share vs. 28.3% in August 2022 while PHEVs are up 24.9% to 4,557 and 19.1% share vs. 17.7% a year ago. This means electrified vehicles hold 60.1% of the Swedish market in August vs. 46% last year. Volkswagen (+6.2%) threepeats at #1 with 14.9% share vs. 11.4% so far this year, distancing Toyota (-10.5%) at 8.6%. Traditionally a low month for Volvo as factories close for the holidays, the Swedish marque however rallies back up 93% on a particularly daunting year-ago volume and ranks third just 13 units below Toyota. Kia (-2%) is down one spot on last month to #4 while Tesla (+274.9%) and Audi (+102.6%) both post tremendous gains below. Lexus (+201.9%), Polestar (+188.2%) and Seat (+102.9%) also make themselves noticed while BYD, #8 last month, falls back to #19.
Over in the models aisle, the Tesla Model Y (+517.2%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date with 6.3% share, and this month is it followed by the VW ID.4 (+122.3%) up to #2 and 6.1% share vs. 3.6% year-to-date. The Toyota RAV4 (-16.3%), #1 a year ago, rallies back up 10 spots on July to #3. The next four models all vastly outpace the market: the Skoda Enyaq is up 26.1%, the Volvo XC40 back up 265.6%, the Volvo XC60 up 24.8% and the BMW i4 up 332.2%. The Audi Q4 E-tron manages the largest year-on-year lift in the Top 30 at #9. The MG 4 is up 14 ranks on last month to #16, becoming the best-selling recent launch (<12 months). Up to an exceptional 2nd spot in July, the BYD Atto 3 is down to a more reasonable #19 this month.
