Kikkan Randall thought she’d been through it all over her career as a five-time Olympian, gold medalist, and active single mother. Then, she was diagnosed with cancer and her world turned upside down.

The diagnosis blindsided Randall, who had just returned from Pyongyang, South Korea, with the first U.S. gold medal in women’s cross-country skiing. She was on top of the world when she learned that she was also fighting for her life.

But cancer had no idea who it had picked a fight with. Randall didn’t hesitate to dive into the melee with the same determination to win that has defined her athletic career. And she overcame the struggle because of it.

Debuting on International Women’s Day (March 8), ‘KIKKAN’ is a feature-length documentary chronicling the life, trials, and successes of one of the most inspirational and badass cross-country athletes in the world. It explores her early life, early cross-country skiing career, Olympic successes, cancer diagnosis, and her eventual return to Alaska where she’d lived for decades. Watch the trailer for “KIKKAN,” Randall’s film, above.

The full film is premiering at events across the country through March. For information and dates, and to get tickets to a showing near you, check out Randall’s website.

Runtime: 1 minute, 20 seconds
