LADYGUNN was on hand to witness Faye Webster light up the The Novo on Wednesday night. The crowd erupted from the first note of the setlist, which included fan favorites “Right Side of My Neck” and “In a Good Way”. She even mixed in some new music and a Pokémon soundtrack cover. The 26 year old Atlanta native strutted across the stage in a layered two tone industrial outfit which was briefly accompanied to by a hand sewn Despicable Me minion hat that a fan threw on stage.
As the concert marched on, the attendees swelled at the start of every song as if it was the one they were praying to witness all day, including the particularly stirring rendition of “Jonny”. One notable attendee was rapper Tyler the Creator, who’s in town to oversee and perform at his annual music festival Camp Flog Gnaw, set to run at Dodger Stadium this weekend. The only interruption came when a fan in the front rows required medical attention halfway through the set, at which point Webster prudently stopped the music and directed the fans to make way for support.
Webster and her band finally left the stage after what appeared to be their final song, only to receive encore chants from the crowd and return to perform a luscious version of her biggest track, “Kingston”.
The packed out, standing-room-only crowd, left the The Novo satiated for what has to be a night to remember thanks to the magical Faye Webster.
