Week of Exercises (April 2024)

Hi friends! How are you? How was your weekend? Our weekend was fantastic as we spent most of it on a wilderness retreat soaking up unplugged time together as a family. I hope to get my act together enough to type up a recap of everything to share with you guys on the blog later this week but until then, I have my Week of Workouts post to share with you guys for the month of April.

I’ve fallen into a groove of at-home and in-person workouts lately and like the variety but really love the way combining at-home and group workouts allows for ultimate flexibility in my schedule each week. The days I make it to Burn Boot Camp I know I work out harder but I’ve found some great workouts on YouTube that are still very challenging.

Below you’ll see a peek into what last week’s workouts looked like for me!

Week of Workouts: April 2024

On Monday morning, Ryan took Chase to school which freed up my morning a bit! I asked Rhett and Ryder whether they’d like to head out to the 8 a.m. boot camp class before preschool or play a bit at home while I did an online workout and they voted for more home playtime which made my workout decision an easy one! (For any moms out there with toddlers and babies, working out when kids are awake gets SO MUCH EASIER. Honestly, I hated trying to squeeze in at-home workouts when the boys were younger because there were so, so many interruptions. Just letting you know it’s a phase and it will get easier!) I streamed this Burn Boot Camp MetCon workout from their YouTube channel and it was a sweaty one! I swapped out a few exercises (I flat-out refuse to do weighted jumping lunges) but really liked the pace of this workout. MetCon days are one of my favorite Burn protocols because they combine weights with cardio exercises so it’s the best of both worlds. (You can read a lot more about specific Burn protocol days in my Burn Boot Camp Review post if you’re curious!)

I also took Pepper for a 45-minute walk on Monday.

  • Burn Boot Camp Leg Day Workout

On Tuesday, Ryan was traveling so I dropped Chase off at school and then took Rhett and Ryder to the 8 a.m. camp at Burn Boot Camp before preschool. It’s rare that I’m able to squeeze in a Burn camp before preschool drop off but it always feels amazing when I do because it frees up my whole morning while the boys are in school. Tuesday’s Burn protocol was a leg day workout and it was a good one that had my quads and hamstrings burning!

I also took Pepper for a 60-minute walk while the boys were at preschool on Tuesday.

A few of my girlfriends and I frequently share workouts we’ve found and loved via YouTube and this recommendation came from my friend Danielle. We talked about how we love YouTube instructors who share workouts you don’t have to listen to so you can play your own music, watch a show in the background or even listen to an audiobook or podcast while you workout. Growing Annanas is one of these instructors and I loved this 25 minute full-body workout I did on Wednesday. Since I had just done a leg strength workout the day before, I ended up swapping out quite a few of the lower body exercises for cardio, upper body or core exercises but it still got the job done!

I also took Pepper for a 30-minute walk on Wednesday.

Thursday was a rest day for me, as I needed my 5-7 a.m. window of kid-free time to work before the boys were awake and then my day was taken over by a field trip to a local strawberry patch with Rhett and Ryder’s preschool. My body basically refuses to work out in the early evening so a rest day it was on Thursday!

  • Friday: Burn Boot Camp Upper Body Workout

On Friday morning, I attended the 8 a.m. camp at Burn Boot Camp with friends and went through an upper body workout had really smoked my triceps! Everything else was burning, too, but it was particularly brutal for triceps which I not-so-secretly love. I’m a sucker for a solid upper body day at Burn and Friday’s workout was a good one.

  • Saturday: Hiking at Wildacres Wilderness Retreat

My favorite workout of the week was easily Saturday’s hikes at Wildacres Wilderness Retreat. Ryan, Rhett and I went on our first hike in the late morning (Ryan carried Rhett in our hiking backpack) while the big kids attended a Nature Detective session and then we went on a second hour-long evening hike looking for salamanders as the sun went down. Hiking will forever be one of my favorite ways to move my body as it has a way of making me feel completely present in the moment, as I focus on the trail in front of me and enjoy being out in nature.

We did a super-short 20-minute family hike after breakfast in the morning on Sunday before it was time to wrap up our time at Wildacres and make our way home but most of Sunday looked like a rest day after we arrived home in the middle of the afternoon.

Questions of the Day

Do you prefer in-person or at-home workouts?

While I absolutely prefer in-person workouts most of the time, having babies and the pandemic worked together to make me appreciate quality at-home workouts, too.
