Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day The Winchester Model 1907 is a .351 caliber blowback-operated semi-automatic rifle produced from 1907 to 1957. Designed by Thomas Crossley Johnson, it was an improvement on Winchester’s previous Model 1905, scaled up to fire the more powerful .351 SL cartridge. This intermediate rifle cartridge approximated the ballistics of the .30-30 Winchester. The Model 1907 features a 5, 10, or 15-round detachable box magazine and remains a compact, lightweight carbine-style design. Although not a huge commercial success as a sporting arm, the Model 1907 saw some military use in WWI and was popular with law enforcement in the 1920s-30s. Criminal gangs like the Dillinger gang also employed Model 1907 rifles. Production exceeded 55,000 over its long 50-year run.
